“A pig wearing glasses would be dope!”

Logan Hanna, owner of Sam’s Creek Studio in Nashville, Tennessee, is good at what he does. No, he’s great at what he does. A three-time winner of the Country Music Association’s Monitor Engineer of the Year award, Logan has traveled the world working with top music acts, including Grammy Award-winning duo Brothers Osborne, Josh Turner and Frankie Ballard.

These days, Logan calls rural Tennessee home, where he and his wife, Abi, live on a seven-acre farm filled with an impressive menagerie: two horses, goats, chickens, two dogs, Rusty and Lucy, and two very memorable pigs, kunekune pig Hank and rescued
pot-bellied pig Peggy.

So when Logan approached me about creating a logo for Sam’s Creek Studio, I had a feeling a pig might be involved.

Hank, in particular, has developed a personality all his own, even earning his own Instagram account, @tennessee_hank. As we began talking through Logan’s vision for the logo, he sent me a few ideas, including a quickly rendered AI image of Hank wearing Logan’s signature Wayfarer glasses and sitting behind an audio console.

From there, we explored a number of variations: different glasses shapes, headphones versus no headphones, color combinations and typography. Eventually, all the pieces came together in a mark that felt unmistakably Logan, and unmistakably Hank.

The final logo features Hank sporting Logan’s signature glasses, with an AUX input cleverly doubling as his curly tail. The warm ochre color was chosen as a nod to the many familiar colors of life on the farm: Hank’s coloring, the hardwood floors of the studio, and even the coat of Abi’s horse, Copper, to name a few.

What started with a pig, a pair of glasses and a quick AI sketch ultimately became a logo that brings together Logan’s work, his personality and the place he calls home.
